ICFS Presents: Incubus (1966)
Evil has never been so seductive!
Believe us, you’ve never seen anything like this! William Shatner was tapped to star in “Incubus” mere months before being cast in the role that would make him a Sci-Fi household name. The creative team behind the legendarily creepy “Outer Limits” TV show decided to try their hand at a feature horror film, and while it is often said that films about the Devil are cursed with bad luck, “Incubus” might be the most cursed of them all. By the time the film premiered, two of its stars had tragically taken their own lives, and the eccentric director’s insistence on requiring all actors to speak Esperanto (a language constructed of elements of multiple world languages… and once intended to be the international language that all people on Earth would speak), all but ensured that the film would fail to receive distribution. It was nearly lost forever when the original elements were believed to be lost in a fire, only to resurface 30 years later!
The only American movie ever filmed in Esperanto, and one of only two ever made in the world, “Incubus” opens with succubus Kia (Allyson Ames) expressing her boredom with her task of luring sinners to Hell. To spice things up, she decides to seduce the good-hearted Marc (Shatner), yet though she succeeds in getting him to fall for her, he refuses her most carnal advances, having vowed to save himself for marriage. Infuriated, she and a sister succubus, summon a male incubus to bring misery and death upon Marc. Marc, however, has other plans. Not rated. In Esperanto with English subtitles. 74 minutes.
